The Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro presents the new JEWELS section

The section, that witnesses the experiences of the artist in the field of Jewellery from the fifties on, is available to online consultation from 15 December 2021.

This new important chapter will be followed by the publication on 22 December 2021 of new materials in the online Archive, a research and focus tool about the life of the artist.

Necklaces, bracelets, rings, brooches, cufflinks, made by casting on cuttlefish bone and adding hammered wires, lumps of material, fine or rough stones, as well as boxes, cigarette cases, small medals: from today, 15 December 2021, Arnaldo Pomodoro's Catalogue Raisonné online will be enriched with a new section devoted to Jewellery.

About 800 works, ornaments designed in relation to the body that is going to wear them and various precious objects, mostly made in a single copy, which testify to the artist's experiences in the field of goldsmithing since the 1950s, have been collected and documented for the first time, together with the drawings on paper made for their design.

Seeing the sequential images of all the jewels in the Catalogue Raisonné today", writes Arnaldo Pomodoro, "moves me deeply; first of all because they are largely unknown works, not shown in exhibitions or illustrated in books and magazines. These precious little objects, which last a long time unaltered and seem to contradict the incessant and inexorable passing of time, contain many ideas, references, experiences and present, so to speak, a repertoire of expressive elements of my own language. Examination of them in their overall progression and in the details of each one reveals correspondences and characters that refer to the unfolding of my research and my overall history as an artist.

The Catalogue Raisonné online is a project in progress conducted by the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro under the supervision of the artist: an immediate, free, constantly updated and precise consultation tool for scholars, cultural institutions and students, collectors, market operators, as well as the general public, who wish to deepen their knowledge of the Maestro's work. After the sections devoted to Sculptures, Drawings, Multiples, Scenography and Jewellery, the catalogue will progressively address all the other areas the artist experimented with his work: Design Studies, Graphics, Applied Arts.

The publication of the section dedicated to Jewellery marks a further step forward in the research activities undertaken by the Foundation, pursuing a precise cultural policy of involving users in a mutual exchange of information, which in time will enrich both the online catalogue raisonné and the database of the Archive.

As of 22 December, the Arnaldo Pomodoro Online Archive - a freely accessible web portal - has been enriched with new materials that document and explore the life and work of the Maestro, as well as the artistic and cultural history of the 20th century in which he was involved.

In particular, the materials in the Audiovisual section have been doubled, in which it will now be possible to view around 50 films from 1964 to the present day - either unabridged or in preview form - acquired from cinema films, VHS and DVD, containing artist's films, documentaries, interviews, films of the inauguration of works and exhibitions, and various types of footage.

In addition, two new sections of the Archive will be presented: the Photographs section and the Miscellaneous Materials section.

In the Photographs section, an initial selection of around 200 shots will be available, portraying Arnaldo Pomodoro on various occasions, with friends, artists, cultural figures and institutions, often taken by great photographers such as Paolo Monti, Ugo Mulas, Maria Mulas and Carlo Orsi.

In the Miscellaneous Materials section, the entire nucleus of around 150 exhibition and theatre posters will be online, followed, in the next releases, by the awards received by the artist and all those unusual and curious materials of various kinds, such as calendars, diaries, postcards, etc.

As the digitisation and cataloguing campaign proceeds, the online archive will be progressively enriched with new materials, which the Foundation has chosen to make available to the widest possible public, from researchers to simple enthusiasts, in the conviction that such a precious heritage of memories can be a living instrument of discovery and knowledge for everyone.
