The Robertaebasta Gallery Inaugurates a New Venue in Milan

In the Brera district, the new headquarters of the Robertaebasta Gallery opens, a landmark for collectors and enthusiasts of 20th-century decorative arts, which has represented a showcase of excellence in the heart of Milan for over fifty years. After the success of their London and New York locations, Roberta Tagliavini and Mattia Martinelli are once again investing in Italy's design capital, moving to a place steeped in history and significance: 16 Fiori Chiari Street.

The location is not a random choice but a deliberate decision that demonstrates the desire to once again enhance the building where, back in 1962, Piero Manzoni opened his studio. This creative center was destined to become an essential stop for the art and design scene of 1960s Milan. As the designer Nanda Vigo noted:

“In the evenings, we would go to 16 Via Fiori Chiari in Brera to see Piero (Manzoni), along with Lucio (Fontana), Enrico (Castellani), and the others”

This splendid venue has historically been a meeting place for some of the most influential figures in Italian and international art and now renews its identity as a catalyst of beauty through Robertaebasta's stunning collections. The exhibition space spans two floors, both overlooking a marvelous internal courtyard enriched with floral elements. Originally, the 19th-century building was a workshop home accessible only via a navigable canal, which now makes way for splendid ornamentation perfectly in harmony with the exhibited objects.

“We carried out significant structural reinforcement without altering the original beauty of these spaces, which previously housed a grain warehouse” (Mattia Martinelli)

Every detail is a feast for the eyes, from the iron railing of the internal staircase depicting an elegant greyhound’s run to the marble floor on the first floor decorated with bronze details illustrating zodiac signs.

“We designed the staircase to connect the two levels of the showroom. For the balustrade, we were inspired by the art of Gio Ponti and incorporated the greyhound figure. It well represents the style of an era” (Mattia Martinelli)

The Robertaebasta collections, renowned for their heterogeneity, stylistic variety, and meticulous accuracy that never fails to amaze observers, could not have found a more fitting setting to showcase their prestige. Each piece is carefully selected in harmony with the others to create an environment that enhances the features and style of an era crucial to the evolution of modern taste. Upon entering the gallery, visitors are immersed in a unique and overwhelming experience, capable of captivating the most discerning connoisseurs, while also attracting enthusiasts and admirers of beauty. With this homage, the gallerists aim to merge innovation and tradition, taking on the responsibility of history and reaffirming Brera's role as a longtime epicenter of the arts and design.
