From Oct. 21, 2023 to Jan. 7, 2024, the Licia and Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti Art Study Center Foundation in Lucca will present the relationship between electronic arts and drawing as a substantial medium of the creative process.
The project "Pensiero video. Disegno e arti elettroniche" curated by Andreina Di Brino, an expert of aesthetics and languages of the multimedia image and professor at the University of Pisa, proposes a path through the exhibition history of the Foundation, emphasizing the attention to electronic arts and videoart in dialogue with the source of the all visual arts: drawing. This project is a story born from the reflections of Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti and the work of the former director of the foundation, Vittorio Fagone, who was strongly focused on New Media Art and the relationship between art and technology.
The exhibition features drawings, videos and video installations by national and international artists including the exceptional Little Italy (1990) by Nam June Paik, fluxus artist and father of video experimentation. This masterpiece will be exhibited alongside works by Gino De Dominicis, Lucio Fontana, Hans Namuth-Paul Falkenberg-Jackson Pollock, William Kentridge, Nalini Malani, Fabrizio Plessi, Quayola, Michele Sambin, Mario Schifano, Studio Azzurro, Grazia Toderi, Gianni Toti, Giacomo Verde, Bill Viola, and Wolf Vostell: group of artists selected by the curator Andreina Di Brino, assisted by the Scientific Committee of the Ragghianti Foundation, headed by Sandra Lischi and composed of Fabio Benzi, Paolo Bolpagni, Martina Corgnati and Davide Turrini.
From the beginning of a new way of making and thinking about art through the use the so called "New Media" several decades and innovations have passed. The New Media Art has radically transformed the meaning and the definition of an artwork by completing the deconstruction, begun by the historical avant-gardes, of traditional art forms as arts of space and literature and poetry as arts confined to the temporal dimension. The reworking of the data and expressive and communicative potential of new media has radically changed the contemporary art.
Musical suggestions, sounds and words, images, and animations are united into the works ideated from the imaginations of these artists, these form of art interrupt the idea of the fluidity of time, which is alternately expanded or contracted, suggesting a different, more interactive and intense perception from the point of view of the senses. "Pensiero video. Disegno e arti elettroniche" is part of the spirit, the research and the experimentation typical of the Ragghianti Foundation. In this space each exhibition constitutes an opportunity and a tool for knowledge and an insight into the world of contemporary art, its trends and genres; underscoring the need for new studies concerning electronic art, video art and digital art that also explore the lesser-known aspects of artists' production and activity.
