OGR Torino presents Metronome by Sarah Sze and Tainted Lovers by Sara Enrico

The stunning late 19th-century industrial complex converted into a hub of innovation, art and culture, which has always been central in Turin's history, will be one of the main character of the Turin Art Week 2023. A couple of solo exhibitions of two great female voices of contemporary art will be inaugurated in the former industrial space of OGR Torino: Metronome by Sara Zhe and Tainted Lovers by Sara Enrico. These artists are characterized by an innovative and experimental poetics and visual languages that explore the new frontiers of artistic expression with the aim of stimulating collective growth and increasing the ability of viewers to read and understand the contemporary.

Along with the opening of Artissima (on November 3, 2023) will be inaugurated Metronome, the first solo exhibition in an Italian institution by Sarah Sze (Boston 1969), curated by Samuele Piazza. The exhibition presents, for the first time, a new artwork co-commissioned and co-produced by OGR Torino together with Artangel - London and ARoS - Aarhus Art Museum with the support of Victoria Miro Gallery. From this collaboration comes to life an installation capable of restoring all the complexity of the artist's research. Since the 1990s, Sarah Sze has developed a visual language able to evade the static nature of sculpture and embody the explosion of information typical of the contemporary media universe.

From Nov. 3, 2023, to Feb. 11, 2024, it will be possible to immerse in these artworks by navigating through the constant flow of information of our days, reshaped by the artist by traveling along a road filled with objects and images. A practice in which the reworking of the visual narratives that we store daily from magazines, television, smartphones, cyberspace and the real world converges in the artworks. Sculpture thus gives rise to images and the opposite, simulating the generative process of images, in a reality where consumption and production are predominant and interdependent factors.

Tainted Lovers, a solo exhibition by Sara Enrico (Biella 1979), curated by Samuele Piazza, will take shape in the adjacent space. From Nov. 3 until Dec. 10, 2023, it will be possible to visit the artist's solo exhibition, produced with the support of the CRT Foundation - supporter of a fellowship in favor of artists from Piemonte for a period of residency at the American Academy in Rome - the project combines a series of works created through a sophisticated process of altering materials, from fabric to cement to foam rubber, all presented with an unprecedented site-specific installation.

The relationship with the surfaces of objects, the tensions of structures and the interconnections between heterogeneous elements invites visitors to reconsider traditional perceptual categories, living the experience of «tactile proximity». The artist and her collaborators work materials - and concepts - through multiple layers of mutation until the objects stop moving and lie, completely immobile. Entering the spaces of the OGR Torino, it will be possible to discover a different approach to sculpture that allows for a three-dimensional, fluid and hybrid form, ready to unleash its expressive power beyond traditional boundaries.
