From September 26 to 28, 2025, the historic halls of the Real Collegio in Lucca will once again host Lucca Art Fair, now in its ninth edition and, for the first time, in an autumn format. After several spring editions, the fair symbolically launches the new exhibition season, positioning itself as Italy’s first major autumn event dedicated to contemporary art.

This strategic shift marks a new chapter for the fair, increasingly committed to consolidating its role within the national art scene. In constant dialogue with the city’s cultural institutions, Lucca Art Fair strengthens its position as a dynamic platform for the promotion of art, bringing together established experiences and emerging projects from across Italy and beyond.

The fair is organized by T.O.E. in collaboration with Blob Art ETS, and is held under the patronage of the City of Lucca, the Chamber of Commerce of North-West Tuscany, and Confindustria Toscana Nord.

A New Layout for the 9th Edition of Lucca Art Fair

In keeping with its spirit of renewal, the fair’s exhibition layout has been reimagined. The Rooms, now connected in pairs, will guide visitors through a more organic and engaging itinerary. “We wanted to rethink the structure of the exhibition route to meet the needs of an increasingly attentive and involved audience,” explains director Paolo Batoni. This new connection between spaces is not only functional but also conceptual: it transforms the visit into a fluid, immersive and coherent experience, where each gallery naturally dialogues with the others.

Between Challenges and New Opportunities

Despite a complex context, the fair is choosing to move forward. “Difficulties,” Batoni notes, “are opportunities to explore new approaches, to take risks and to encourage galleries to embark on original and engaging paths.”

The 2025 edition expands its offering: the number of galleries increases, with particular focus on emerging and mid-career artists, while also preserving the presence of established masters. The result is a broad temporal spectrum, ranging from the masterpieces of the early 20th century to the most current contemporary research.

Main Section: From Masters to New Generations

With its thirty-three galleries, the Main Section reflects the trends of the Italian art market while opening up to international perspectives. Alongside historical figures such as Vladan Radovanović, a pioneer of multimedia art presented by Prototip Gallery of Belgrade, and the European selections of Richard Vanderaa Gallery – featuring works on paper by Förg, Beckley, Plensa and Schuyff – stand younger galleries that are revitalizing painting and expanding its language, such as Mondoromulo Arte Contemporanea and Candy Snake Gallery.

Completing the picture are projects that intertwine different media, such as A Pick Gallery, which creates a dialogue between photography and painting, and 800/900 Art Studio, which showcases works by Lorenzo Viani exploring the representation of the female figure from the 19th to the 20th century. The result is a fertile panorama where tradition and contemporaneity converge, offering collectors both the solidity of history and the energy of new voices.

The Other Sections and the Talks

The Art Projects section will be dedicated to experimental projects, with a particular focus on solo and duo shows by artists from diverse backgrounds. Independent will once again provide space for project spaces, artist and curator collectives, and hybrid initiatives that fall outside traditional market dynamics.

Special prominence this year goes to the Editor section, entirely dedicated to independent publishing and the artist’s book. Positioned strategically on the first floor, it will be accompanied by a dynamic program of Talks on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28, featuring artists and publishers in a series of public conversations designed to encourage debate and exchange. These sessions will also be recorded and shared online, extending the reach of the initiative beyond the physical boundaries of the fair.

Why the Editor Section?

The Editor section responds to the needs of those seeking specific, refined, independent editorial products: objects born from experimentation, the hybridization of visual and textual languages, craftsmanship, and aesthetic research. Whether for passion or professional practice – as in the case of creative professionals, artists, designers or curators – independent publications and art magazines offer sources of inspiration, conceptual insights and new imaginaries.

Placing the book and art publishing at the center reflects a growing awareness: today, publishing is a fully recognized space of artistic production, capable of hosting visions and practices that often escape traditional exhibition formats.

Public Programme: the Performance

Enriching the Public Programme will be the performance Anacronista sarai tu, scheduled for September 27 and 28 in the cloister of the Real Collegio. Conceived by the Accademia Libera di Calci – Pino Donnaloia, the project places life drawing at the center—not as an academic exercise, but as a collective, critical and profoundly contemporary practice. Students, models and the public will all be involved in an open workshop, where observing and drawing become tools for generating connection, tension and awareness.

Mission and Identity

With this edition, Lucca Art Fair renews its mission: to create real connections between artists, galleries, publishers, curators, collectors and the public. A fair that evolves, embracing art in its many languages and formats, and positioning itself as a meeting point, a space for reflection and discovery for everyone who inhabits and animates the contemporary art system.

The fair is no longer just a place of exhibition, but an experience that cuts across spaces and content, placing at its core the relationship between people and works, between those who produce art and those who experience it..

A Tax Innovation: 5% VAT

This year, the event takes on added significance as it becomes the first testing ground for Italy’s recent introduction of a 5% VAT rate on the sale of artworks. A long-awaited measure, it opens up promising new scenarios and is expected to mark the beginning of a phase of renewed vitality and positive growth for the contemporary art market.
